Hager
How a Hager witty plus connects to Joulo over OCPP 1.6J from the Hager Charge app, and how the other witty lines differ.
Hager witty plus chargers connect to Joulo over OCPP 1.6J. You enter the Joulo endpoint once in the Hager Charge app, over Bluetooth, standing at the charger. The witty plus has no web interface.
At a glance
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Route | OCPP 1.6J |
| Endpoint | wss://ocpp.joulo.nl/ (bare host: the charger appends its own OCPP ID) |
| Authentication | OCPP basic auth, set as Authentication type Basic in the app |
| Charge point id | The charger's serial number, 22 characters, case-sensitive |
| Sync | Live, over the WebSocket |
| MID detection | From the boot notification. The witty plus carries a MID meter as standard |
| Backfill | Sessions from the moment the charger connects |
Setting it up
The Hager Charge app pairs with the charger over Bluetooth, with the pairing badge from the box. Installer Mode (the icon at the top right) unlocks the CPO Configuration menu. There you enter the server URL under CPO address and leave the OCPP ID on the serial number. Set Authentication type to Basic, then enter the Joulo username and password under Login and Password. The charger needs its own network connection, WiFi or wired, from the same General settings menu.
If an installer or a charge-card provider already operates this charger, changing the CPO address cuts their services. Confirm you are allowed to change it before you do.
Three things about the witty plus differ from most OCPP chargers:
- It appends the OCPP ID to the server address itself. Give it
wss://ocpp.joulo.nl/and it connects towss://ocpp.joulo.nl/{chargePointId}. A pre-appended id works too, because Joulo reads the first path segment, but the bare host is what the wizard hands out. - The secret travels as HTTP basic auth. The app's Login and Password fields carry it. The charger reports security profile 2 when both are set over TLS.
- The OCPP ID is case-sensitive. The default is the charger's own 22-character serial number, which is also the
chargePointSerialNumberin its boot notification. Joulo accepts any id, but it must match the registration character for character.
Charging keeps working without internet
Connecting to Joulo never makes charging depend on the connection. On every boot Joulo pushes a configuration that keeps the charger autonomous, including local authorisation and offline transaction handling. Sessions started while offline are delivered when the WebSocket reconnects.
Charging without a card
Hager exposes two vendor keys for free access: HagerOcppFreeAccessEnabled and HagerOcppFreeAccessIdTag. Joulo sets both from the scenario the owner picks in the dashboard. A witty plus then starts on plug-in without waiting for a remote start.
The charger drops a freshly written tag when it resets within minutes of the write, and on a power loss. Joulo's resync confirms the tag as well as the mode, and pushes it again when it is empty. An owner who sees the card prompt return after a power cut can toggle the scenario in the dashboard to trigger that resync at once.
What Joulo reads
Joulo stores start and stop transactions and the Energy.Active.Import.Register samples, which the witty plus sends every 60 seconds during a session. Every frame is archived for support and disputes.
Which witty is which
| Line | Article | MID meter | Reaches Joulo |
|---|---|---|---|
| witty one | XVR111S, XVR111C | No | No. Not eligible without a meter |
| witty plus | XVL122S, XVL122C, and the SPI, CPI, SFL and CFL bundles | Yes | Yes, from the Hager Charge app |
| witty pro | XVL122SLM, XVL122CLM | Yes | Through the Hager XEM510 or XEM520 load manager, which holds the OCPP settings |
| witty park | XEV6xx | Per version: the manual lists the MID meter as version-specific | Web configurator over the network |
| witty share | XEV1R22T2 | Check the article | Web configurator over the hotspot badge |
| witty park 2 | XVP222S, XVG222S | Check the article | Web configurator over the hotspot badge |
The web configurator on the witty share and witty park 2 is the route that operator guides such as Monta's describe: activate the hotspot with the supplied WiFi badge within 5 minutes of power-on, join hager-evcs-<last 6 of the UID> or Witty-<serial>, sign in as admin, and fill the OCPP page with the same values as above. No witty share or witty park 2 has connected to Joulo yet, so that route is on request.
Limitations
- Setup needs physical access, the Hager Charge app and the pairing badge.
- History from before the connection does not exist here. The charger reports from the moment it connects.
- The witty pro, witty share and witty park 2 are not walked by the connection wizard.
